Every Sunday morning at 10am Redeemer Church gathers together for worship. We sing. We pray. And we take ample time to study the Bible. Many people view the Bible as a rule-book that gives instructions and prohibitions. Others view the Bible as a play-book that gives the design for a successful life. Though there is truth to both those views, the best understanding of the Bible is that it is the revelation of the person and work of God Himself. In other words, the Word of God is primarily the revelation of God. And there is nothing more important about any single person than what he or she believes about God. As a matter of fact, what you believe about God defines who you are and how you live your life. Therefore, we study the Scriptures to gain greater knowledge, trust, and affection for the God of the Word.

Right now we are studying the book of 1 John in a sermons series called AAA.  The sermon series is titled AAA because of the key themes of Assurance, Abidance, Affection. The Apostle John wrote this letter for the practical edification of his “children” in the faith. Just like today, the temptation of being drawn away by the seductions of the world and false doctrine was very real. John desired to ground believers in the assurance of their salvation and to stimulate their spiritual growth by teaching them to abide in Christ and show affection toward others. The goal of this sermon series is the same as John’s letter: to help believers experience Assurance, Abidance, & Affection.
